Scope and Content

1 box ; 15 5/8"h w x 16 3/4"d x 13 1/8"w The Auxiliary supported the residents of the Rosewood Center in Owings Mills, Maryland, which was the home of the developmentally disabled children and adults from all over the state. The women provided comforts and entertainments for the residents for over fifty years. Beginning in the 1970s, medical, social work, and public opinion changed about how to manage developmentally disabled individuals. Far fewer children were sent away from home and adults were encouraged to be in group homes or even to live independently in a somewhat sheltered environment. Many buildings in the complex were closed and even demolished. The Auxiliary decided they did not need to continue their work and formally disbanded on November 8, 1985. This collection includes correspondence, journals of minutes, treasurers' reports, rosters of auxiliary members and Rosewood residents, invitations to events, newsletters, a history of the auxiliary, etc. There are two rubber stamps. The collection is largely in folders, but the small rosters and rubber stamps are in a separate small box within the Hollinger box.
