Black and white 10"h x 8"w photo of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic church in Bushwood. This photo is of the second building of the church. It was built in 1892 by Joseph Milburn and destroyed by lightning and the subsequent fire on April 16, 1944. This view shows the gable end at the entrance and steeple. The steeple went through the peak of the roof. There is a six-sided spire surmounted by a large cross. The belfry is open with gothic arches on each of the six sides and a two-tier railing. The bell is visible behind the railing. The next lower portion of the tower has fish-scale siding, but all other siding is standard clapboard. There is a lovely rose window on the second floor of the tower with small gothic arch windows on the side walls. On the first floor is a leaded glass gothic arch transom with a white IHS in the middle over a double wooden door. There is a small gothic arch window on the side wall of the tower. There are four steps up from the ground to the entrance and a metal hand rail on each side of the steps. The verge board along the roof line has carefully spaced circles that may pierce the board. There are no windows on the second floor gable end, but on the first floor there is a large leaded glass window with a gothic arch, one square light and six smaller lights on each side of the entry tower. Because of foliage, the long side of the building is not visible. A curving drive passes in front of the entrance and may also run the length of the building. Metal posts support chain to fence off the lawn from the driveway.
