Saint Francis Xavier Church in snow 2Entry/Object ID
1995.001.2479Description
5"h x 7"w landscape orientation color photo of St. Francis Xavier Church. It was winter and there was snow on the ground. Mr. Fenwick was there before a path was shoveled to the church door. The church was white with dark trim and a dark roof. The belfry was four sided with louvers in the rounded arches and a pyramid roof. The orb and cross were on top of the belfry. The roof of the sanctuary had a steep slope. The entrance area of the building had five walls, three of which were visible. On the upper floor there was a three over three double hung window in each face. On the first floor a one over one window was in each of the sides with the entry door in the middle. The frame around the door was painted black, with six panels in each door painted white. The H style hinges were also painted white to dramatic effect. A small lamp post was on the right. Behind the church loomed the brick manor house with double chimneys on each end. A small gray outbuilding faced toward Breton Bay. The priests' monument was in the left yard against a fence. A sliver of Breton Bay was visible in the distance. This is one of Mr. Fenwick's best photos.
