3 1/8"h x 3 1/4"w black and white photo of St. Mary's County Courthouse. This courthouse was built ca. 1899. This view was of part of the front lawn and the building. There was a very deep trench dug on the Washington Street side. The brick building had a series of wings, each with a hipped roof. There was a porch with a hipped roof and double pillars for support. The pillars were mounted on large stone blocks. All the visible windows and doors had round arches. There was a small dormer with an open pediment above the front porch. The sign for the building was just below the dormer. The second floor of the main portion of the building had a center door and two tall windows on each side. The second floor of the wing closest to the camera had two windows on the front elevation and two windows on the end. The windows under the porch roof were not visible, but there was a door and a window on the long wall of the wing and a single window on the short wall. The downspout on the corner had been cut short. The courthouse had two visible chimneys.
