Description

Black and white photo 8"h x 10"w of the Saint Michael's Manor house. It is a two story white? stucco house with brick sills on the windows. It has a gable roof with the peak on each end squared off by an inside end chimney of running bond brick. Each chimney has a brick corbell. On the side of the roof visible to the camera are two narrow dormers, each with a gable roof and a six light over six light double hung window with the lower half screened. There is a gutter the full length of the eave and a downspout on the corner of the house nearest the camera. On the gable end in the attic are two square windows placed on each side of the chimney. On the second floor there is one six light over six light window near the front corner of the house. On the first floor there is a similar window in a similar position. It is fully screened. There are no other windows on the gable end. On the long wall on the second floor are three evenly spaced six light over six light windows that are fully screened. On the first floor near the corner of the building is one six light over six light window that is larger than those on the upper floor. This window has a full screen. In the center of the first floor is a screened porch with a gable roof at right angles to the building. The porch is one bay deep and one bay wide with a knee wall and then three panels of screening on the side with a center door and two narrow screens on the gable end. The support columns are thick and there is a pediment effect on the gable end. On the far side of the house there is a one story addition that includes a garage. There are shaped cedar trees scattered around the house and very near the camera a new tree is supported with poles. There is a decorative wagon wheel on the left side of the porch. Power comes past the building on the left and there is a large television antenna on the far end of the roof. There is a wooden table and chair in the lower right corner of the photo. All the visible roofs have dark shingles. There are no shutters. ********************************** Text on verso: "Saint Michael's Manor House Saint Mary's County, Maryland (1955) St. Mary's Beacon 4 col x 7 1/4 Nov. 17 Photo by Chas. E.
