Landscape orientation of the photo. This is a photo of part of the classroom at St. Luke's Church in Scotland, Maryland in 1940. There are eighteen children who appear to be around 8 or 9 years old at an assortment of desks. The children are not wearing uniforms. It is probably a warm day, since most of the children are wearing short sleeves. There are three windows visible on the opposite wall that begin at the top of the dark wainscot. Each has light colored cafe curtains suspended on strings and a light colored shade pulled down. Between two of the windows is a large poster encouraging children to join the Junior Red Cross and below it is a blackboard with a word choice exercise written in chalk. On the far right an oil lamp is attached to the wall above ?? and another blackboard. Two little girls in the foreground appear to be eating something, but they are the only ones.Collection
