3 1/2"h x 5 1/2"w black and white postcard showed Washington Street in Leonardtown on the east side of the square. There was the two story Duke Building on the left and a large three story light colored building on the right with Hotel St. Mary's past that . There was a power pole on the corner of Washington and Fenwick Streets that supported a banner for the county fair. A small stop sign was in the very middle of Washington Street. The Duke building had a brick facade that stair stepped up to give the illusion of three stories. "Duke's Fountain Bar Restaurant" was painted in very large letters above the second story windows on the Washington Street side. There were eight lights in each of nine windows equally arranged along the front of the building. The window on the far right was open. On the first floor, there were three store fronts. The one on the corner had a screened double entry door with a large twenty-four light transom window. There was a vertical "Restaurant" sign on the second level, a small oval sign for the Greyhound bus stop, and a "Fenwick Street" sign as part of a Coca-Cola banner. The store had a large glass window shaded by a light colored awning. The store next door did not appear to be occupied. Its striped awning was pulled up. The store on the right was a hardware store that carried Sherwin-Williams paint. It had a nine light window as a transom over the entry door and four similar windows above the main glass display window. At this point in the image, vermin have done their work, so details of the light colored building are sketchy. The second story had nine six-over-six light windows in groups of three. There were awnings over two sets of windows. A cantilevered sign said "Drugs." The third floor had one six-over-six window in the center of the wall, but all the other openings were louvered. There were several cars parked along the curb. Hotel St. Mary's with its dormers and large porches was just visible on the right. In the lower right corner of the card there is a cartouche with "Section of the Business District Leonardtown, Md." This card does not scan well at all, so its image was not managed.
