Show Boat MGM movie publicity posterEntry/Object ID
2008.012.0017Description
This poster was meant to be used at a theater where the movie was playing. In the lower right was a statement in miniscule print, "Property of National Screen Service Corp. Licensed for display only in connection with the exhibition of this picture at your theatre. Must be returned immediately thereafter. R-63/32" The image uses navy blue and red on a white ground for the cast, pictures, and text. Howard Keel, Kathryn Grayson, and Ava Gardner are rendered in navy blue in the upper left corner with the name of the movie on the right in red and navy. There is a large red blob in the lower half of the piece with the names of the cast and credits for Ferber and the producer and director. The blob is surrounded by fuzzy images of dancers and the river boat in navy blue. A small red dot in the lower right corner encourages the viewer to "hear the M-G-M original soundtrack album." This image was copyrighted in 1963 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. Just to the right of the copyright statement is "63-33" which makes sense because this image is different from the one in 1994.001.0066 that was labeled R63/32. This image is only slightly different from the one in 1994.001.0065.Collection
