Slave cabin at The PlainsEntry/Object ID
1980.001.0232Description
4"h x 6"w black and white photo of a slave cabin at The Plains in the northern part of the county. Part of the text under the photo has been cut off. The house was a typical story and a half with a steeply pitched gable roof that swooped out to cover a full length porch. That porch was five bays wide. Half the roof appeared to be covered with sheet metal and half was cedar shakes. There was a small opening to the attic in the gable end. There was a very small inside end chimney on the left and a larger outside end chimney on the right. All other details are obscured by the porch roof. The house was up a considerable slope from the photographer.
