3 1/2"h x 5 1/2"w dull yellow postcard showing Soldiers and Sailors monument on the square in Leonardtown. The monument was centered by a tall stone rectangle with an elaborate wrought iron light support on the top. Power for the light came from an ugly pole and wire just to the right. On the side facing the camera there was an anchor and a laurel wreath on the vertical stone. Staining from the metal pieces had gone straight down the stone so It looked like a long sword instead of an anchor. There were two raised stone wings that had the plaques for names of the fallen. There were three large wreaths at the foot of the monument, so perhaps the photo was taken not long after Armistice Day. Behind the monument on the left was the First National Bank of St. Mary's, a three story building with heavy stone work. On the right were two story houses. A black dog was watching the world go by. In the "frame" at the bottom "Soldiers and Sailors Monument Leonardtown, MD."
