Black and white 3 1/2"h x 3 1/2"w photo of Sotterley. A brick gable end of an addition faces the camera, with the remainder of the house at right angles. The roof line of the addition includes a shed roof porch on each side. The gable end has two quatrilune windows near the eaves. There are no other windows on this wall. There is one gable roofed dormer visible on the left roof slope. The long main building is a story and a half style, with five gable roof dormers visible. There are three small chimneys that leave the roof just to this side of the peak. There is another large chimney, but it is difficult to tell if it in the addition or the main building. The porch in the main building is included in the roof line, but on the right, the building extends to the eaves. There is another building on the right. A circular gravel drive runs to the right. An adult male is just visible in the right center. On the scrapbook page, Mr. Fenwick wrote, "Built by Secretary George Plater in 1730. His son became Governor of Maryland and lived in this old mansion."
