Black and white 3 1/2"h x 3 1/2"w photo of Sotterley. A brick gable end of an addition faces the camera, with the remainder of the house at right angles. The roof line of the addition includes a shed roof porch on the right. There are no visible windows on this wall. There are two gable roofed dormers visible on the right roof slope. The main building is a story and a half style, with one gable roof dormer visible. There is a large chimney visible, but it is difficult to tell if it is in the addition or the main building. The porch in the main building is included in the roof line. Six people are visible in two groups of three. In the left group, one woman is a costumed interpreter. The group in the foreground is inspecting the foliage. On the scrapbook page, Mr. Fenwick wrote, "Built by Secretary George Plater in 1730. His son became Governor of Maryland and lived in this old mansion."
