Sotterley porch from the eastEntry/Object ID
1995.001.1656Description
Black and white photo 8"h x 10"w of the porch and house from the lawn on the water side of Sotterley. It was taken in the summer. I believe the camera is facing west. On the grounds are many trees. The story and a half house has one long dormer of white clapboard on this side and two small dormers with gable roofs on the left. Four six over six windows with shutters are visible in the large dormer. There are two chimneys visible on the left and one inside end chimney on the right. A white cupola with a shield and a date is in the center on the roof line. On the first floor there are four six over six windows with shutters on the right, a screen door, another window with shutters, another screen door, and two more windows with shutters all on a white clapboard wall. The window next to the right hand door does not have room on the left for a shutter, but a second shutter is attached to the shutter on the right so the whole window can be covered when required by storm or absence. The porch roof is supported by tapered white posts set on stone or concrete. Several of the posts are equipped with decorative vines. There are chairs and benches on the porch. Most of the windows are open. The gable end of the house is visible. A small square four light window is in the end of the gable. The rest of the gable end is without windows and covered with ivy. A portion of the porch roof on the right side of the house is just visible. There is a depression in the lawn in the foreground that may have concrete around it and is ringed with rocks. A flowering tree is just visible on the left.
