Sotterley postcard--Exterior 2Entry/Object ID
1995.001.2490Description
3 1/2"h x 5 1/2"w color postcard showing Sotterley on the waterside from the garden end. The building had three chimneys and a white cupola on the roof. The gable end of the house was covered in ivy, trimmed so it did not intrude on the roof line. The end of the dormer had either a very small window or ventilator near the dormer roof. There was a first floor porch on the opposite side of the building with a closed end shed roof. A large dormer with six windows covered about two thirds of the length of the building on the waterside. On the first floor, a closed end shed roof covered a long porch with eight bays. All of the dormer windows were six over six. The first floor windows were larger. All the windows had shutters. There were several folding chairs on the porch and the lawn. The trees were green and leafy, so they provided lovely shade.
