Sotterley postcard--Exterior 4Entry/Object ID
1995.001.2492Description
3 1/2"h x 7"w color photo Christmas card showing Sotterley on the land side. The building had two visible chimneys and a white cupola on the red roof. This view showed the library wing and part of the main house. The wing had two quarter round windows on the second level of the gable end. The entire gable end was covered in ivy, trimmed so that it did not impinge on the roof line. There were closed end shed roof porches on both the left and right; the one on the left was small. The porch roof was supported by simple white posts. In the library wing roof there was one gable roofed dormer; its window had dark shutters. There were two similar dormers in the main roof; the windows were six over six. A door and some windows were barely visible on the first floor. Under the photo was written in red flair pen, "Sotterley 1964." The rest of the card had a shiny white background with dark green ivy leaves and dark red ribbons. "Merry Christmas Happy New Year" and in red flair pen "from the President & Staff Sotterley Mansion Foundation P.T.O."
