Description

Black and white official Navy photo 8"h x 10"w of the participants in the ceremony on Saint Clement's Island on October 12, 1958. There was a celebration of forty years of Navy management of the island, but plans were afoot to turn the island over to the State of Maryland. Mr. Fenwick and Mr. Beitzell were leading the effort to have it be a memorial to the original settlers of Maryland. The five men are standing in a field near the fenced off area. The officer has a camera with him. The priest is holding his large dark hat. The other gentlemen appear to be hatless. ********************************** Text on verso: Stamped in very black ink--"Released If published credit must be given as follows: Official photograph U.S. Navy'" Handwritten in black fountain ink--"St. Mary's Co.
