Black and white 3 1/2"h x 5"w photo of the interior of Saint George's Episcopal Church in Valley Lee, also known as Poplar Hill Church. This is presumably the east end of the sanctuary. There is a bank of pews on the outside edge, two banks of pews in the center, and another bank of pews on the far side. A strip of carpet runs down each aisle. The pews appear to be white with a dark color outlining the edges. The altar is two steps above the floor of the church and has a dark carpet. A small font is on the left and the lectern for the priest is on the right, both outside the altar rail. The altar rail posts are white with a dark handrail on the top. The altar is in front of a dark curtain that is hung about 8? 10? feet high on the wall. The altar has a cloth? or is painted with a raised alpha and omega symbol on the front. A cross on the top surface is flanked by candlesticks. The United States flag is on a stand on the left and a ? flag is on the right. On each side of the altar is an elaborate high backed chair. Behind the chairs are rectangular windows with rather simple leaded glass decoration. A peaked board lists the hymns for the service. One side window is visible on the right. The ceiling of the sanctuary is arched and supported with turnbuckles.
