3 1/4"h x 5 1/2"w sepia toned pair of photographs of Saint George's Protestant Episcopal Church, aka Poplar Hill Church on a postcard. This left view was of the gable end of the building with the heavy steeple set back from the roof peak just a little. The church appeared to be white stucco with light-colored painted trim and a light roof. There was a central door flanked by a window on each side. Five windows were on the long wall of the building. The steeple was a square, four sided affair with louvers in round top arches on the sides. The conical part was very tall. Information on the church says there were two different steeples during the life of the building, but both were removed because of weight on the roof. This is the only photo I have ever seen of a steeple on the building. Several gravestones were visible on the right. The photo on the right was of the interior of the church. It had a rounded arch ceiling; there were turnbuckles visible. A dark curtain hung behind the altar and two leaded glass windows flanked the space. There was an altar rail. The baptismal font was on the left and the podium for the priest was on the right. Two rows of enclosed pews were in the center of the building and another row was on each outside wall. Two leaded glass windows were visible on the left wall.
***********************"St. George's of Poplar Hill Church ..." was the title of the card, followed by additional information about the building. The postcard was never mailed.Collection
