Description

5"h x 7"w black and white landscape orientation photograph of Saint George's Protestant Episcopal Church, aka Poplar Hill Church. The photographer was standing near the entrance gates. There were brick pillars with gable tops on each side of the gravel road. The wrought iron gates were folded back too far to see their design. The wrought iron fence had high and low rows of fleur-de-lis rods. Just to the left of the entrance was a signpost carrying the traditional sign for an Episcopal church. The church building was in the distant center of the image with the west gable end shaded by the many trees, even though the trees had no leaves. The church appeared to be brick with white painted trim and a dark roof. On the gable end, there was a central double door flanked by a window on each side and a small circular window six or seven feet above the door. There was at least one step up to a small landing with wrought iron railings on each side. Shrubs were near each corner of the building. Many gravestones were visible on the left of the building and on the right edge of the image. The former steeple was on the right as well. There were large spreading trees on the grounds. ****************in black stamp ink: "Rick's Studio 323 Great Mills Lane Lexington Park, Md. Phone VO lunteer 3-6271"
