1995.001.1205Description
Black and white 3 1/2"h x 3 1/2"w photo of St. Mary's Manor. Mr. Fenwick's text: "St. Mary's Manor (East St. Mary's) at St. Mary's City. Designed and built by Vincent Camalier, architect, in 1846-7." [This house is known as the Brome-Howard house.] This view shows the water side of the clapboard house and one addition. It has a gable roof with two gable dormers facing the camera. An inside end chimneys pierces the roof on the right end. On the second floor there are three six over six double hung windows with dark shutters. The two left windows have their shutters closed. The gable roofed and pedimented porch has square posts tapering toward the top. There are three substantial bays and a railing. The porch is two steps above the ground. The door to the house is on the left. It has a transom window and side lights. There are two large six over six windows with dark shutters on the left. A two story addition is barely visible on the right. There is a door with a four light transom very near the joining of the buildings. It has an open porch with a short railing on just one side. Above the door there is probably a window with shutters. Next to the door is a bay with three large six over six windows with dark slim shutters. The large trees in the yard obscure details of the buildings.
