Black and white image 6 1/2"h x 9 1/8"w on 8"h x 10"w paper of the steamboat St. Mary's at a wharf in a large city. The background is too hazy to tell if it is Baltimore or Washington. The ship appeared to have two and a half decks. The driving wheel was not quite half way from the bow and there was a huge stack, presumably directly over the powerplant. There were very tall slim poles supported by guy wires both fore and aft of the stack. At least one life boat hungs in its davits amidships. There may have been a series of cabins near the stern and some sort of enclosed public area on the second deck. The name of the steamer was on a signboard over the housing for the wheel. There was a steamboat on each side of the St. Mary's. The original photo was taken from the water and this reproduction is grainy, so it is difficult to make out detail.
