Name/Title
Steamer at Wharf, Leonardtown, Md.Entry/Object ID
2001.001.0019Description
5 3/8"w x 3 7/16"h postcard with a horizontal orientation. The black and white image is 3"h, leaving a small space at the bottom for the title and publication details. The viewer was standing on the shore, looking at the bow of the boat. Its name is visible, but not legible. The smokestack was very tall. There were passengers leaning on the rail by the bow, watching the proceedings below. A log canoe was drawn close, perhaps loading fish or oysters for the big city. There was a large enclosed wharf between the boat and the shore. On the verso was the typical center divider between the mailing address and the message. This card was addressed to Miss Lucie Loker in Valley Lee, without a message. In the upper left corner was the eagle, shield, arrows, and olive branch all in brown ink. The card had been posted, even without a message. It was published by Foxwell & Johnson.Collection
