Stuffed ham for the PresidentEntry/Object ID
1995.001.2514Description
3 1/2"h x 5 1/2"w black and white postcard of the delivery of a southern Maryland stuffed ham to the White House at the time of the St. Mary's County Fair. Buck Briscoe arranged for this; during the Eisenhower era, he dealt mostly with Homer Gruenther, who patiently received the offerings. In this photo, Briscoe is on the left, speaking into a microphone. The Queen of Tolerance, Susanna Blake, was holding one side of the stuffed ham and Mr. Gruenther held the other side. Cans of oysters were on a table just below the ham and a large sign said "Oysters and Stuffed Ham from St. Mary's Co. Md. for President and Mrs. Eisenhower Hon. Mr. and Mrs. Gruenther." Small signs for the fair were on each side of the larger board. These folks were in some sort of large space, judging by the industrial fan above their heads.
