Mrs. Hyatt was born a Carter of the Carter Medicine Company that made Carter's Little Liver Pills. When Mr. Hyatt passed away and she married J. Allan Coad, he was suddenly a wealthy man.
Coad occasionally sold shares, received more shares when the stock split, received dividends, and was on the Board of Directors of the company.
Coad had trouble with the company that paid Carter's dividend checks. Sometimes the checks were mis-directed or delayed.
The family was often asked to sell shares to other companies who thought they could make money re-selling the shares. The family held so many shares that they had to abide by many Securities and Exchange Commission rules and regulations if they ever wished to sell.
There were carbons in the material that were on terrible paper. These were photocopied onto permanent paper. The carbon ribbon was old and much used, so the imprints on the carbons was often indistinct.
John Legg in Baltimore made suggestions for reinvesting stock profits.Collection
