This print is mounted on a 7" x 9" board. It is a sepia tone image of Summerseat, a large home in Laurel Grove, Md. Peter Himmelheber does not think the appearance of the house jibes with its description in the tax records, so this may not be Summerseat. It is a large, two story, Flemish bond brick, shingled hipped roof home with one two story wing on the left. The floors of the wing do not match up with the floors of the house. There are two large interior chimneys and a three bay entry porch in the center of the facade six steps from the ground. The building is nearly covered with vines of some type that even curl up onto the roof. This would appear to be a summer scene; nearly all the windows are open. There are five single hung twelve light windows with shutters on the second floor and four visible thirty-two light windows on the lower floor. The wing is of light colored material and possibly a metal roof. One shuttered window is visible on each floor and there appear to be vines on the first floor. Back on the main house, there are four visible columns supporting the metal porch roof and a porch railing of turned posts. A man is seated in the center of the opening, probably watching the photographer. On each side of the porch there appear to be what would have been window openings, but they have been bricked in. These may always have been meant to be ornamental, however. There is a large dark bench on the ground to the left of the porch. A path leads across the yard perpendicular to the porch steps, another path crosses in front of the house and a third path angles back toward the wing from the corner of the main house. At the intersection of the paths in front of the porch is a nine or ten foot tall light pole with a fixture on top and there are large rocks at the corners of the path that runs away from the house.
