Summerseat, second houseEntry/Object ID

This photograph is of the "second house" at Summerseat, a large home in Laurel Grove, Md. This is a two story clapboard house, of which two sides are visible. It has a slightly sloped shed roof, higher in the front. On the front, the slight roof overhang is supported at each corner by a console. The eaves give the appearance of visible rafter ends to provide a little decoration. On the upper floor, there are three double hung windows with shutters with four lights. All the windows are "framed" in a different color from the house and the shutters. There are closed curtains in each window and I believe the lower sash of each window is fully raised. On the side of the second floor, it is not possible to see the light configuration because the shutters of each window obscure the view. It would appear the windows are open; curtains flutter out the bottom of the far window. There is a three bay porch with a shed roof that covers the entire front of the house. It is one step up from the ground. It is so overgrown with foliage that only part of the front door is visible on the first floor. On the side, there are three windows, but the shutters are pulled to. There is a driveway up to the right side of the house and a path across in front of the porch. There are many flower bushes, possibly roses and peonies, scattered around the yard. There is a high lattice fence on the right side of the house, possibly as much as nine feet high, since it reaches to nearly the top of the first floor. There is picket fencing visible on the left side of the house and a garden bench also. There is a very large tree to the left of the house, but it has seen better days and has lots of dead wood.
