Description

This buff document with brown ink is the survey done in support of a suit of ejectment by John A. Carter against [?] Armsworthy. G. M. Pembroke on June 1, 1844 was directed by St. Mary's County Court to re-survey several properties: Lordship's Favor, Vaughn's Hills, Unexpected, Dirt Bridge Hook, Rout Cap [?], Jarboe's Ramble, Beverly, Mill Manor, and Chilton's Adventure. Reference is made to the wills of John DeButts, Samuel DeButts, and Mary DeButts. The defendant obtained land through the escheat procedure and the plaintiffs disagree with this. There are two survey diagrams shown at the top of the document. Mr. Pembroke signed the document stating that the re-survey took place in July 1845. He charged the plaintiffs $28.50 for his work and entered it on the verso of the document. An otherwise illegible box on the verso contains the date August 1847. This document was part of a group of papers left to Mr. Fenwick by Guadalupe "Lupe" Duke, wife of General James Duke, adopted son of Dr. L. B. Johnson. Dr. Johnson's wife was a Morgan and her aunt was Fannie Mattingly.
