Sykesville Station 1Entry/Object ID

8"h x 10"w black and white photo of the Sykesville Station. This is the first of these photos with lots of people on the platform. Perhaps they all wanted to be in the picture. The station was a large building with a two story central bloc, That portion had a gable roof perpendicular to the rest of the building. An elaborate brick chimney rose at the juncture of the two roof lines. The building appeared to be all brick, but the platforms, five steps above the ground, were wooden planks. There was a high pillar in front of the station with a large signal light on top. A very tall ladder leaned against the small platform for the light, so perhaps it had to be switched on manually. The station master's viewing area was in the middle of the first floor. A four bay wing to the left had windows rather high off the ground. The three bay area nearest the photographer had larger windows and was likely the waiting room for the station. There was a central door in that space. Two narrow windows with slightly arched tops were centered in the gable end of the building. Ten men were in the photo, as well as a woman and a small child. There was no visible signage on the building. The area around appeared to be farm land.
