Sykesville Station 2Entry/Object ID
2019.009.0042Description
5"h x 7"w black and white photo of the Sykesville Station. The station was a large building with a two story central bloc, That portion had a gable roof perpendicular to the rest of the building. An elaborate brick chimney rose at the juncture of the two roof lines. The pediment on the track side of the building was painted white, as was a similar feature over the station master's office. The building appeared to be all brick, but the platforms were of some indeterminate surface. The station master's viewing area was in the middle of the first floor. A four bay wing to the left had a double door and a single door, as well as windows rather high off the ground. The three bay area nearest the photographer had larger windows and a central door and was likely the waiting room for the station. Two narrow windows with slightly arched tops were centered in the gable end of the building. Ten men were in the photo, as well as a woman and a small child. The station's sign board was hung above those windows. There was graffiti on the building, including a peace sign. A silo and other commercial buildings were at the far end of the platform. Behind and across the street was a two story building that may have been a community hall.
