Description

3 1/2"h x 3 3/8"w black and white photo of a portion of Teresa Fenwick's sampler that she made in 1802. The photo focused [not very well] on part of the text in the lower left corner. Mr. Fenwick provided a transcription: "please may see the care my parents took of me after I am dead and all my bones lay rotten I leave them this to look upon for fear I should be forgotten" A photo of more of the sampler was also taken and shares the sleeve. As of 1956, the sampler was held by Mrs. Aloysius King. ********************************** Text on verso: none, but on accompanying sheet "Tradition tell [sic] us that Teresa was nine years old when she executed this beautiful job. She was a dau. of Francis & Margaret Fenwick, she married Lewis Fenwick of Benjamin & Jane Fenwick on Feb. 14, 1814 and had children Francis Aloysius, John Felix and Jane Margaret. After the death of Lewis, Teresa married John Simms on Jan. 24, 1825."
