This is a trader's license issued for the state of Maryland by the Clerk of the Circuit Court for St. Mary's County. The license cost $11 for 11 months. The actual fee was $11.85, with the $.50 for the clerk. This license entitled Zephaniah Nelson & Stanislaus L. Boothe to trade in the county "goods, wares, and merchandise" not to exceed $1,000 with the exception of "spirituous or fermented liquors" at their store Mount Pleasant. Apparently the first of May was renewal day for these licenses because it was printed on the form, but the amount seemed to be pro-rated. John A. Camalier was the clerk at the time. The comptroller's embossed stamp is visible if the document is held in your hand, but is difficult to see if the piece is lying on the table. W. N. Purnell was comptroller.Collection
