This is a transcript to an interview Andrew Philip Bove did with Kerry Robinson about his time at Flat Tops. The transcript starts off with a note from Andrew about how the first 30 minutes or so were lost. He also states that he is summarizing from what both he and the videographer remember of that first half an hour.
Kerry lived for a year in 1975 and off-and-on between 1976 and 1978. It's stated he returned for a third and final time in September of 1989 along with his wife and daughter. He and his family were apparently the second to last to be relocated in 2005. Just as Dana Somerville had mentioned in her interview, Kerry talks about how in the later years of Flat Tops that the area was much more rundown with any maintenance involving only temporary fixes.
Mr. Robinson is asked about where he would spend time and he replied with saying his own yard. A bit later in the interview Andrew questions Kerry about if the Navy or the Naval Base had an influence on Flat Tops. To wit Kerry responded saying yes and brought up how and why Flat Tops eventually relocated everyone. According to him with the development of the AICUZ at the flight approach zone, safety concerns were raised about Flat Tops being right under said flight approach zone. The Navy announced there would be no more multi-family housing. Kerry talks about how low the planes were as they flew over Flat Tops and how the noise from the jet engines heavily impacted their lives. He also brings up National Night Out and how that benefited the community's safety. By the late 90s Flat Tops had a reputation as being dangerous.
