One 9 1/2"h x 14"w black and white photo of Tudor Hall in Leonardtown. The building was being renovated at the behest and expense of Mrs. Davidson to be the county's library building. Gertrude Sawyer was the architect for the project.
Tudor Hall is a large Georgian style building with a hipped roof of cedar shakes. There were two pairs of large brick chimneys, one on each side of the roof near the peak of all the roof lines. There was scaffolding around the chimneys, presumably for tuckpointing. In the center of the long roof line, straddling the peak, was a widow's walk. Three courses of clapboard supported a white railing on all four sides of the space. On the second floor there were five visible six-over-six light double-hung windows. The arch of the portico was visible behind more scaffolding. An I-beam was installed above six pillars to give support to the portico arch. On the first floor, there was one six-over-six light double hung window on the left, a center door and two smaller windows in the portico and three small basement windows near the floor of the portico. One six-over-six double-hung window is barely visible behind foliage at the right. There was lots of construction trash in the yard and on the portico. The driveway ran in front of the building and a Hudson and a Ford were parked on the left. Weren't they worried about nails in their tires? There was a large old mis-shapen tree on the left and other trees barely visible over the roof on the other side of the building.Collection
