Description

8"h x 10"w black and white photo of the group gathered in front of the Tulip monument for the centennial service. The view is back across the field. It was a sunny day, but cool, based on the women's clothing. There were five rows of folding chairs, a wooden podium in front, three arm chairs visible on the left, a flag on each side of the monument, and a floral or ribbon arrangement on the far right, awaiting placement. A gentleman in civilian clothes is at the podium, speaking to the audience. The monument behind him is about 7' high and about 2' thick. The stone sits on another large flat stone slightly elevated above the grass. The plaque on a stone is visible on the ground in front of the podium. There are cars and barns in the background and very few leaves on the trees. ************************************ Text on verso: in black stamp ink "U. S. Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Md.
