Turkey for the President, 1958Entry/Object ID
1988.001.0058Description
This is an 10"h x 8"w black and white photo of the presentation of a turkey and oysters from Saint Mary's County to President and Mrs. Eisenhower in December 1958 at the White House. Homer Gruenther, in a dark hat and suit, is holding the bird up for the camera. I don't know if he grew up on a farm, but he looks perfectly confident holding a turkey. The bird had to suffer the indignity of a little hat on its head and has its eyes closed in shame. The photo is three-hole punched for inclusion in a notebook.
