This is an 8"h x 10"w black and white photo of the presentation of a turkey and oysters from Saint Mary's County to President and Mrs. Eisenhower in December 1958 at the White House. Homer Gruenther, in a light-colored topcoat, accepted the bird on behalf of the President. He is holding one of the bird's wings and John Knight Parlett is holding the other. The bird is standing on some artificial grass draped over a large crate, his traveling container. The bird had to suffer the indignity of a little hat on its head. There are six small cans and one #10 can of Patuxent River brand oysters in front of the turkey. A commercially produced sign on the front of the crate says "'Mr. St. Mary's County' II Gift to President and Mrs. Eisenhower Merry Xmas." Below that sign is another that says "Norman Turkey Farm." The group in the photo includes L-R: Two unidentified young women, although the one in the dark coat looks very like Barbara Lawrence, John Knight Parlett, Henry Fowler, T. Webster Bell, Tippy Stringer, Homer Gruenther, and Buck Briscoe. The White House looms in the background. It is a bright sunny day, but there is snow on the ground and the young ladies look like they are freezing. The photo is three-hole punched for inclusion in a notebook.
