MISSING
This is an 8"h x 10"w black and white photo of the presentation of a turkey and oysters from Saint Mary's County to President and Mrs. Eisenhower on December 18, 1959 at the White House. Homer Gruenther accepted the bird on behalf of the President. The bird is standing on a metal sheet on top of a large crate, his traveling container. The bird had to suffer the indignity of a little hat on its head. There is one #10 can of Patuxent River brand oysters and one #10 can of Potomac View oysters in front of the turkey. A commercially produced sign on the front of the crate says "'Mr. St. Mary's County' III for President and Mrs. Eisenhower The group in the photo includes L-R: Buck Briscoe, Homer Gruenther, Dorothy Dunn [later Briscoe] behind the turkey, Mrs. George Thompson, John Hodges, a county commissioner, George Thompson, whose farm supplied the turkey, and Calvin Kirby, who transported the turkey. The group may be on a porch of the White House.
