Two Unknown Musicians 2Entry/Object ID
1980.001.0365Description
One 3 1/2"w x 4 1/8"h black and white photograph of two African-American musicians sitting at someone's kitchen table. There were two large probably four light windows in the background with low sills. There was a hot pad hanging on each window's woodwork. A hexagonally framed kitchen clock was high up between the windows. There was a typical white metal 4' x 3' table with a small drawer with a box of tea bags, a sugar canister, a bottle of some kind of sauce, something I can't identify, and a salt container on the back edge against the chair rail. The gentlemen were sitting on mis-matched wooden chairs. The man on the left had on a white long-sleeved shirt, a light colored tie, and dark trousers. His coat, barely visible, was hanging on the back of the chair. He was playing a violin. The man on the right wore glasses, had on a white shirt with a bow tie, a dark vest and possibly gray trousers and suit coat. A cigarette rested in a corner of his mouth as he bent over his instrument. He had a white bandage on the thumb of his right hand and rings on his left hand. He was playing the bass viol with a bow. The linoleum on the floor had a dramatic pattern. Sadly, neither man is identified, but one member suggested Richard Portee as the man in the foreground.
