This carte-de-visite is in sepia tones. A young priest, probably a Jesuit, is standing in front of a backdrop of a large window with lace curtains back right and a massive wooden structure back left. He is turned a little to his right and his right hand rests on a pile of books. He is clean-shaven and without glasses. His hair curls slightly from beneath his hat. He has on a heavy black surplice with a diagonal closure above a sash, but the details of the skirt are not visible. He has a large cross on a long cord around his neck; the cross is tucked into the sash. There is a medal? hanging from the sash and a rosary hooked in three places on the sash. The sleeves of the garment are a little too long. For whatever reason, the bottom part of the carte has been cut off.
