Edward Allen Smith's oral history interview on December 14, 1996. He was adopted when he was very young by Mr. and Mrs. William B. Thompson. He did visit his biological family in Washington, D.C. during school breaks. He traveled in the region to look at colleges, but went into the Navy instead. He worked from age 14. He continued to work on the base after his Navy service, mostly in electronics. He dropped out of planes twice and was injured the second time. He had to retire on disability. He lost a son to injuries suffered during the Vietnam War. He did a lot of coaching and working with young people. He was not pleased with the general trend of life--too little respect for others. The interview is on two disks and in a black plastic container with a cream label on the spine.
