Scope and Content

1 compact disk ; 4 11/16" in diameter Everlyn Louise Swales Holland's oral history interview on November 16, 1996. She lived with her parents and siblings on one acre of land. There was a large garden that provided all their vegetables. For many years, they did not have a well and had to haul water one-quarter of a mile. There were lots of chores for all the children. She attended Banneker School her entire school career. Banneker stopped at 11th grade. She went to college for a year and then to nursing school. Several relatives helped pay for her education. The only significant health problem was diphtheria, for which her home was once quarantined. She described the situation at St. Mary's Hospital when she worked there. She had a successful marriage and enjoyed a good relationship with her children. There was some discussion about her religious life. Mrs. Holland had been very active in the community, but she felt people were not as connected as they once were. The interview is on two disks and in a black plastic container with a cream label on the spine. This object contains: 2009.002.0045.0001--Transcript of Everlyn Louise Swales Holland's oral history
