Mary Elizabeth Herbert's oral history interview on January 16, 2007. Mrs. Herbert's mother worked for the nuns and priest at St. Joseph's Convent for 50c per day. When the new priest arrived, he arranged for a substantial pay increase and made it retroactive. She could either have money or land for a house. The mother chose the land. Several homes were reconstructed barracks from Fort Meade. Mrs. Herbert talked quite a bit more about her mother. She also talked about her family and Father Kavanaugh. Mr. Herbert chimed in with information about moving and rebuilding the barracks. There was difficulty with county government when the group wanted to build a community center, but it did happen. The interview is on one disk and in a black plastic container with a cream label on the spine.
