3 1/8"h x 2"w tintype of a man looking straight at the camera. He had on a hat with a very large brim, heavy clothes and stout boots. Perhaps this was a family member who went west. He was sitting in a photographer's chair that was on a patterned carpet. The background was completely plain. His left arm rested on the arm of the chair; his right arm partly rested on his right thigh. His right leg was crossed over his left. He had large hands. He may have been in his mid to late 20s. In the right light this piece has a greenish background and the jacket and hat appear to be very deep purple.
