2 3/4"h x 1 1/2"w tintype of an older woman. Her body faced right, but she looked just to the right of the camera lens. She had a center part in her curly hair that hung down her back at least as far as her shoulders. She had drop earrings in her pierced ears. Her dark dress had a white stand collar with a large dark pin in the center. Her right arm rested on an invisible support, then curved back toward her body, and she had a book in her right hand. It did not appear thick enough to be a Bible. Her left arm was bent so that her hand rested in her lap; a wedding ring was not visible The sleeves of the dress had deep smocked cuffs and white inner cuffs. She may have had on a shawl with a closely pleated edge. A chain hung down below the edge of the shawl. The paper "frame" had no text.
