Three sheets are glued together. The first sheet is a notarized form certifying that Daniel Piquett was in fact a justice of the peace in Baltimore; George Robinson attested to this. In the second form, S. Rosenthal swore to Mr. Piquett that the attached copy of a promissory note was correct and had never been paid. The note is a commercial form with a lovely engraving of stags and a waterfall on the far left, with an escutcheon for the dollar amount--$32.00--on the upper left edge. Thomas R. Hodges promised to pay this amount to S. Rosenthal at the Citizens' National Bank of Baltimore. The promissory note is glued along it entire bottom edge to Mr. Rosenthal's statement and the statement about Mr. Piquett is glued over that on the left edge. An embossed stamp has been applied to the area of the glue, circular in form, with lady justice and her scales in the center and letters about the court of Baltimore City around the edge. Not all of that is legible. The whole thing was then folded several times.Collection
