Commercial form of a promissory note. There is an engraved "frame" 1/8" from the edge on all four sides. There is a decorated space in the upper left corner for the amount: $15.68, and below that is an oval with a picture of a young girl with dark hair and a medieval costume with a hand to her brow as if she were thinking hard. "Baltimore" is scratched out and Miles Town written in next to the date of May 15, 1877. John T. Hammett and Charles ? Hammett promised to pay P. Zell the above amount within one year. The due date was entered in the sppropriate space in red ink. This note was later turned over to James R. Alvey for collection.Collection
