Commercial form of a promissory note. In the upper left corner is a small rectangle of flowers and leaves for the numerical amount--$62.01 in this case. Under it is an engraving of a blacksmith with his tools. Jerry Blair promised to pay the money to P. Zell & Sons on May 15, 1874. Zell could draw on the Farmers and Merchants Bank. On the verso at the top is a record of two payments: one on February 25, 1875 for $13.98 and on July 27, 1876 for $10. Farther down on this side is penciled "doubtful" and then Zell's endorsement and the endorsement of Thomas Hodges.Collection
