3 3/8"h x 5 3/8"w sepia tone photo of the Washington, Brandywine and Point Lookout Railroad locomotive road number 5 at Brandywine, Md. on September 1, 1934. The locomotive had a catwalk on its nose with a cowcatcher and coupling equipment underneath. There was also a ladder sticking up in the air that may have been used to climb onto the top of whatever was coupled in front. There was a large light on the top of the engine with an illuminated "5" on the side panel. Next was a smokestack, then a bell in a harness, then three domes of varying size. There was just one window in the cab and a large coal car coupled in back. There was a pair of small wheels in front under the locomotive, three pairs of driving wheels, and four pairs of wheels under the coal car. The name of the railroad was partly visible on the coal car, with "No.5" underneath that. A two and a half story house was behind the equipment.
Verso: Bruce D. False took credit for the photo with a blue ink stamp with his name and address and a train steaming to the left. September 1, 1934. There were other pencil and pen entries on the verso with technical details about the image and the locomotive.Collection
