1995.001.1724Description
3 1/2"h x 5 3/8"w black and white photo postcard shows Washington Street in Leonardtown looking north from the square. There were tall trees on each side of the dirt road. In the right foreground, a power pole with three cross members and a transformer were visible, as were the wires above the street. A white box fence surrounded the trunk of a tree in the immediate right foreground. Horses and a wagon were visible in the distance on the right. The houses on the left seemed to be right up to the road. There was a horse and carriage dimly visible in the middle on the left. In a band on the bottom of the postcard was the following text: "6291 Washington Street, looking north, Leonardtown, Md. Publ. by F.O. Morgan." On the verso at the top left was a brown eagle holding a shield with olive branches on one side and arrows on the other. Large letters in the middle said "Post Card;" the postmark said "Park Hall, MD. Apr. 30 P.M. 1909" The space for correspondence was slightly less than half of the available space. Jennie was writing to her Aunt Lydia and Uncle John Stewart in Ozawkie Jefferson Co. Kansas. There was a green penny stamp with the likeness of Benjamin Franklin in the upper right corner.Collection
