Description

Water color by Father Stephen J. Tushak of the White House of Giles Brent, Saint Mary's City, Md. It is a summer scene. This is a story and a half frame house with two corbel capped chimneys and a gable roof with a salt-box effect. There are three dormers on the visible side of the house, one with a gable roof and two with hipped roofs. There is an inside end single-stack chimney on the left side of the house and an outside end single-stack chimney on the right. The chimney on the left is not quite centered on the roof peak; more of it is on the far side of the roof. There are two second floor windows; the small one toward the back of the house has its top left corner cut off by the roof line. There are two windows in the end of the first floor. On the visible side of the house on the first floor is one nine over nine window, a door with a transom light, and two more nine over nine windows. Vines create a bower effect over the door. There are several steps up to the stoop and a wrought iron railing is on each side of the steps. One basement window is visible. To the right of this house is another story and a half house with a gable roof. It has a massive single-stack outside end chimney with a corbel cap. There is a small window on the second floor next to the chimney and a gable roof dormer is visible in the roof. A twelve-light window is visible on the first floor. On the left side of the house is a partially visible low structure of red brick which joins the first house to another story and a half house. This structure has a door facing away from the house. There may be a window in the wall paralleling the house. The second house has a single stack inside end chimney which exits from the end wall a foot or so below the peak rather than from the roof . There are two small windows on the second floor end and a single dormer in the visible roof. There is a twelve-light window visible on the first floor.
